Wineries Solar Viejo, The Rioja
There has always been an Autonomous Community whose name has historically been inexorably related to wine, La Rioja. However, in the south of Álava there is another preferential enclave, known as the Rioja Alavesa. It is in this area, excellent for growing grapes, where great wines have been developed, such as the one hablawe today.
The walled city of Laguardia, a medieval village, welcomed the birth of Wineries Solar Viejo, starting at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria the growth of one of the most awarded wineries in our country in recent years. With a close generational collaboration between the winery and the wine growers in the area, Bodegas Solar Viejo has reached the zenith of quality through the combination of traditional good work, good grapes, and the use of new technologies.
The first of the wines that stands out from Bodegas Solar Viejo Rioja is the Solar Viejo Tempranillo, with an intense ruby red color with violet iridescence. At the beginning of tasting it reveals great aromas of red fruits, together with the minerality of the land of Álava. Its living structure allows a medium-intense end of mouth, so its pairing is recommended with tapas, rice, pasta, skewers, soft cheeses and sausages.
Then we have the red wine Solar Viejo Crianza that overflows elegance from the uncorking of the bottle. With a bright garnet red color, the smell denotes nuances of the crianza in barrel, which intensifies its tasting with hints of vanilla and caramel. Being a Tempranillo 100%, highlights the black licorice aftertaste so typical of this grape variety. It is characterized by an elongated end of mouth. Its pairing is recommended for any type of food, standing out as a good red in its good combination with red meat.
We went to one of the largest of the winery, and one of the best wines of La Rioja for quality-price, Orube Crianza. A very well structured wine, which boasts a powerful aroma on its first tasting. Notes of licorice (again Tempranillo 100%) and ripe black fruit, are integrated with the nuances of barrel wood. Especially expressive on the palate, its velvety elegance and sumptuousness with a slight sweetness invites the diner to enjoy the long end of the mouth. It is a wine that marries perfectly with any type of red meat, sausages, cheeses and rice, or even for dessert. It is a wine that should be decanted, to take advantage and appreciate all its organoleptic qualities.
Finally we have the wine Solar Viejo Reserva, a wine made for large occasions with a more than competitive price. Ruby red color of high intensity with violet iridescence. Explosion of aromas of red fruits, strawberries, raspberries so characteristic of the Rioja Alavesa area. After a slight agitation the aromas of ripe fruit dominate with lactic touches. In the mouth, medium acidity and great liveliness and elegance. Soft and pleasant tannin that invites to drink. Medium-fruity aftertaste. Combine with rice, pasta, any type of tapas or skewers, soft cheeses and sausages.
